Rodgers Tells Players to Take it on the Chin

Rodgers asks Jose how many buses he owns

Following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hasn’t wasted any time in rallying his players ahead of next Monday’s meeting with Crystal Palace.

The Reds travel to Selhurst Park with a win an absolute must if they’re going to stay in the title race. The Anfield outfit needed seven points from their last three matches to claim the crown, but the slip up at the weekend means their destiny is out of their hands. “You can’t win them all. We had a big game against Chelsea and it didn’t go our way, but I couldn’t fault the players” Rodgers explained. “We just couldn’t get through a defence that was very strong.”

A lack of depth from the bench was one of the major talking points coming out of the 2-0 defeat, but there was nary a comment from the Northern Irishman who decided, as usual, to focus on the positives. “I look at the bigger picture and the strides we’ve made this year have been incredible. This is a great group of players and we will take this on the chin and will continue to work on” continued the Reds boss. “We’ll recover and go again and hopefully we’ll get the win against Crystal Palace.”

With Champions League football secured for next season, Rodgers will be able to go about overhauling the squad in a big way come the summer, but for the time being, his focus is very much on the next two matches. “Our objective is for ourselves” he explained, echoing the party line he’s maintained all season. “We need to win our two games and see where it takes us and we will be fine.” With Liverpool able to finish no lower than third, we’re a bit more than fine…
