Sunderland Wait on Fabio Borini News

Sunderland will have to step it up

With a reported bid of £10mil lodged a short while ago, Sunderland look prepared to playing the waiting game in their pursuit of Liverpool striker Fabio Borini even though the striker’s agent is saying that the 23-year old is unlikely to leave Anfield this summer.

The Italian hitman impressed on loan during a spell at the Stadium of Light last season as the Black Cats missed out on glory in the League Cup and narrowly avoided relegation. Borini played a pivotal role in the campaign, pitching in with a number of important goals en route to being named the clubs Young Player of the Year. Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has made no secret of his desire to bring the youngster back to Weirside, but as it stands, the Reds have yet to blink first.

It’s understood that the Anfield outfit want four strikers at their disposal for next season with Borini very much in boss Brendan Rodgers plans. Although they continue to be linked with a move for highly rated Belgian hit-man Divock Origi, all signs point to the Merseysiders loaning him back to French club Lille to make sure his progression remains on track. This, along with the Italian’s agents most recent comments, spell trouble for Sunderland’s pursuit.

“Fabio goes back to Liverpool to stay there, as stated by the manager Rodgers a few weeks ago,” Marco De Marchi made a point of telling the Italian press. “So far, Liverpool have not received any communication regarding his transfer. But for the moment, all I can say with certainty is that Fabio has returned to Liverpool to stay.”

Rodgers is thought to be keen on hanging onto Borini to form a quartet of strikers along with new Anfield boy Rickie Lambert and the duo of Daniel Sturridge and a seemingly Barcelona bound Luis Suarez. As the club look to sort the Uruguayan’s future out, it appears it will have no bearing on the Italian’s future with only a bid in excess of the £10.5mil they paid for his services from Roma even remotely interesting the Reds hierarchy.

I do think that Borini still have a lot of potential however 10m is a good offer.

There’s a lot of time to mull it over. Unless we bring in another center forward, I can’t see him leaving unless we turn a decent profit.
