Best of luck Iago

Following a turbulent first season on Merseyside, Liverpool have confirmed that Spanish striker Iago Aspas will be spending the next season on loan at La Liga side Sevilla.

The former Celta Vigo man has been in the news lately with rumours that he’ll be used as a makeweight to finally bring highly sought after Sevilla fullback Alberto Moreno to Anfield. With the deal confirmed to be a season long loan — subject to the 26-year old successfully completing a medical — it’s not clear at this time whether Aspas moving to the Andalusian outfit will play any role in the Reds continued interest in the defender, but it looks like if there’s a deal to be done, it’ll be separate from this one.

“Sevilla FC and Liverpool FC have reached today a tentative agreement for the loan, with an option to purchase, the player Iago Aspas” read a statement on Sevilla’s official website. “He will wear the shirt of Sevilla FC for the 2014-15 season. At the end of the campaign, Sevilla FC may exercise a clause to purchase the player on a three-year contract with an option for a fourth.”

Aspas struggled to hold down a place in Reds boss Brendan Rodgers plans after trading relegation threatened Celta Vigo for Liverpool last summer. With only five Premier League starts and a single goal to his name — against Oldham in the FA Cup — the 26-year old failed to achieve the kind of plaudits that earned him a move to England in the first place.

Now that the Number 9 shirt is free, it’s high time Liverpool handed it to Daniel Sturridge — he’s about earned it, don’t you think?

Why would Ayre travel to Spain, just to complete a loan signing, it makes no sense, A few phone calls and Aspas agent can handle that,
so I have to conclude Ayre is there for Moreno.

Sevilla had a bid rejected for Aspas not that long ago — wouldn’t be surprised if this loan deal greased the wheels on the Moreno deal. If Ayre is in Spain, he’s probably trying to work things out…
