Swansea City Rebuff Reds Opening Bid for Ben Davies

Interest from Anfield?

There’s yet another twist to be had in Liverpool’s continued search for a new fullback with reports emerging that Swansea City have rejected an opening bid in the region of £8mil for promising defender Ben Davies.

The Reds were thought to be on the verge of rekindling a deal for Sevilla youngster Alberto Moreno after letting misfit striker Iago Aspas join the Andalusian club on a season long loan yesterday, but if the reports of a bid for Davies are true, it could very well indicate that the deal has once again gone sideways and that the Anfield outfit have shifted their attentions back to other targets — which, it would seem, include the 21-year old Jacks fullback.

The comes on the back of Liverpool securing the services of another promising 21-year old in the form of Benfica winger Lazar Markovic. The Serbian was unveiled at Melwood yesterday after weeks of speculation linking the highly rated attacker to Anfield. Markovic, along with Davies, fits the mold of the typical Liverpool target with boss Brendan Rodgers keen to recruit young, unpolished, but bright talent to Anfield.

The youngster made 34-appearances for the Welsh side last season, scoring twice and impressing with keen eye for intercepting the ball. Though Rodgers seems to rate the 21-year old, negotiations could prove tricky with the Reds also keen on snapping up Swansea striker Wilfried Bony as they look to rebuild following the departure of Luis Suarez.
