Liverpool Call Off Loic Remy Transfer Amid Medical Concerns
Initially, it was a rumoured that the hold-up in completing QPR striker Loic Remy’s move to Merseyside had to do with some pesky paperwork, but it’s now looking like it was actually a medical issue that caused the Reds to throw the breaks on the deal.
Although the club have declined to officially comment on the reasons the transfer broke down, after the Frenchman spent several days in America with the Liverpool medical staff, it’s believed that a number of issues cropped up that made the move untenable. With personal terms agreed and the famous Number Seven shirt set to be handed to the 27-year old, the news comes as a blow to Reds boss Brendan Rodgers preparations for the new season.
With time ticking away in the transfer window, Liverpool have been sent back to the drawing board with the massive task of filling the void left by Luis Suarez back on their plate. Remy’s relatively cheap buy-out clause and Premier League experience looked to be a coup for the Reds, but Rodgers has now confirmed that if the right kind of player isn’t available, they may have to wait until the winter to find a long term partner for Daniel Sturridge.
“It has to be the right type. If that means I have to wait until January then that’s what I will do,” the Northern Irishman said. “In the midfield area and out wide we would still have a lot. We shall see, but of course you want to improve, and if the right ones are available we will look to bring them in too.”
Sounds like the stage is set for a bit of dramatic, deadline day haggling.
