VIDEO: Rodgers Looking to Fill Vacancies

Following Liverpool’s penalty shoot-out win over Premier League rivals Manchester City in the Guinness International Champions Cup, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers discussed his sides moves in the transfer market and has assured Kopites everywhere that business is still ongoing.

“We still have some positions that we want to fill within the squad so that by the end of August we have a strong group of players to go forward with,” said the Northern Irishman. “We’ve still got some business to do. We’ve brought in specific players for specific roles, players that have the profile of how we work.”

Liverpool have been hard at work in the market this summer bringing in players with experience playing in England’s top flight with Southampton trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren all making the move to Anfield. They’ve also captured a trio of promising youngsters — Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can, Benfica winger Lazar Markovic and Lille striker Divock Origi are all on the Reds books, and if Rodgers words can be taken at face value, they’ll be in good company as they continue to spend in August.

Following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, the Reds are known to be in the market for another striker after a move for QPR attacker Loic Remy broke down following a failed medical. At least one fullback is also on the cards with the summer long chase of Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno yet to yield fruit. Regardless, Rodgers is excited by the talent they’ve already brought in.

“A lot of the players that have come in, the transition has been very smooth and that should make the adjustment that bit easier” he continued. “Of course some of them are young and coming to a different country, like Emre Can. That will take a little bit of time. The players are transitioning very well, though it will take a little bit of time.”
