About to hop the channel

Liverpool look set to farm out another player in their crop of talented youngsters with Portuguese center-half Tiago Ilori rumoured to be heading to Ligue One side Bordeaux on a season long loan.

In a recent interview, the 21-year old talked of his desire to stay at Anfield this season and show Reds boss Brendan Rodgers what he can do. “On a personal level, I want to stay in Liverpool and play” he said. “If I get a chance, I want to prove I deserve to play more.” Despite his willingness to work his way up through the ranks on Merseyside and fight for a spot in the starting eleven, it’s starting to look like he’ll have to wait yet another year to take on the challenge of a Premier League campaign with French media outlet BUT! Football Club linking him with a move across the English channel.

After a long courting period, Ilori joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day last year along with former Paris St. Germain defender Mamadou Sakho and Victor Moses who sealed a season long loan move to the Reds from parent club Chelsea. Although he was always tipped as one for the future, the youngster has yet to make a first team appearance for the Anfield outfit despite arriving to much fan fare.

Ilori impressed on loan at La Liga side Granada CF, where he made nine appearances and provided one assist, during the second half of last season. There were rumours earlier in the window that the Portuguese defender would be heading to Borussia Dortmund for the season, but he now looks set for a switch to Bordeaux with the two sides expected to announce the deal in the coming days.

I am not really happy about this loan… I am I think Ilori will be a great player he just needs one season of football under his belt but I wanted that to be EPL football.

I agree — a loan to another English team would have benefited him much more than a move to France.
