VIDEO: Lazar Markovic vs Manchester City

It may have only been a half hour cameo appearance, but Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic’s competitive debut hinted at big things to come from the Serbian winger.
He was only on the pitch for half an hour, but he was involved straight away and looked electric on the ball whenever he had it in the attacking third. In quick succession, he eased a pass into the path of fellow new boy Alberto Moreno to run onto as the 22-year old hit the Manchester City defence on the overlap and then he created one of the tastiest chances of the night, picking out Daniel Sturridge’s run into the box after skipping over a tackle and into the area.
It appears that the speed at which he operates can only be matched in the Liverpool set-up by Raheem Sterling, but his mind must work on par with his feet as he completed 87% of his passes on the night. He also got back well when the Reds were on the back foot and won the tackle and take-on he attempted as well as nabbing an interception.
Again, it was only a cameo appearance, but it was an impressive one considering it was against the defending champions on their own patch of grass.
So far, looks exciting.
You can see why Rodgers brought him in. He loves to be direct and is fearless going forward. He’s like another Sterling and to have those two guys running at you on opposite sides of the pitch will be difficult to manage.
