Liverpool Sign Youngster Madger Antonio from Villarreal CF
The transfer window might be closed, but there’s still the odd deal here there — some are certainly better than others, but Liverpool have kept their business on the up and up with the club confirming that youngster Madger Antonio has made the move from La Liga side Villarreal.
The 17-year old has traded Spain for England for a “nominal fee” with his contract with the Castellón outfit set to run out next summer. One for the future, Antonio is in line to feature for both the Reds Under-18 and Under-21 sides over the coming campaign as soon as he receives international clearance — something that could take a little while considering the strict laws governing transfers for players under 18-years of age.
Like most players these days, Antonio has a strong presence on social media and he took to Twitter to announce the transfer. “So proud to be part of the @LFC club!” he wrote after completing the formalities. “Now it’s time to keep working hard! Thanks everyone for your messages!”
Liverpool have placed a strong focus on recruiting young, promising players and their business over the summer is further evidence of that. One only needs to look to the captures of winger Lazar Markovic, striker Divock Origi and fullback Alberto Moreno to see this policy at work. Although Antonio isn’t quite ready for the first team, he’s another talented youngster that can make his way at Anfield.
Best of luck, kid.
