Jordan Henderson Talks Liverpool Pressure and His Captain

Henderson keeps it cool

Jordan Henderson took a lot of stick during his first few seasons with Liverpool. There’s always boatloads of pressure that comes along with players who have exorbitant fees attached to them, but over the last campaign and into this one, the former Sunderland man is starting to justify why the club spent all that cash.

“There is always going to be pressure, to be fair, because Liverpool is a big club. Everybody expects them to do well, especially off of last season,” the 24-year old said in a recent interview. “So, you have to deal with pressure when you’re a footballer, and everybody loves that pressure because it means you are doing something right and people are expecting you to do well. Just give your best every time.”

Although Reds boss Brendan Rodgers admitted that he was looking to off-load him during his first season at Anfield, Henderson has become a mainstay of the Northern Irishman’s side with 35-league appearances last year — and he only missed the other 3 through suspension. With omnipresent Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard entering the twilight of his career, there have been whispers that the 24-year old is the heir to the armband, but that’s something he’s not thinking about quite yet.

“To be honest, I think Stevie has many years left in him because he trains hard every day; he’s always in the gym and he’s a really fit person, so I think that’s a long way as of yet really,” he explained. “A lot can change in football in a short space of time, so all I will be focusing on is doing my best for the club, keep working hard and hopefully just keep improving.”
