Victor Valdes Has Not Rejected Liverpool Trial Confirms Agent

Hasn’t turned the Reds down

Liverpool’s apparent interest in ex-Barcelona ‘keeper Victor Valdes has been a hot topic of conversation for quite awhile now, but it was looking like their move for the veteran shot-stopper was on the verge of collapse when a story that he had rejected the offer to train with the Reds for four days started doing the rounds.

Although a number of media outlets were reporting that the deal was off, the Spaniards agent has moved to right the record by confirming that not only has his client not rejected the chance to train with the Anfield outfit, but that the offer to do so has yet to be extended to him — a far cry from the sensationalized version of events.

“Liverpool didn’t ask us to train for four days. We haven’t rejected it because it [the story] is false” Valdes’ agent Gines Carvajal explained to Spanish media outlet Sport. Neither Brendan Rodgers nor Liverpool have ever made us this proposal, at any time.”

It’s believed that only a medical stands in the way of the three-time Champions League winner joining Liverpool with the Reds looking to not provide cover for incumbent ‘keeper Simon Mignolet, but to challenge the Belgian for a spot in the starting eleven. The Reds have been careful in their pursuit of Valdes with the shot-stopper recovering from a serious knee injury, but all signs point to an offer being tabled in the coming weeks.
