Daniel Sturridge Looking to Link Up with Mario Balotelli in Reds Attack

S&M?

Even though Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly explained that Mario Balotelli will not be leaving the club in January, speculation continues to swirl around the Italian striker’s future. Missing out on the last two matches through a mystery illness, the 24-year old has played a peripheral role since last starting a game for the Reds in November, but he could very well be in for a change in fortunes with Daniel Sturridge making his intention to link up with him known.

With Raheem Sterling back from his short break and Sturridge about to make his long awaited return from injury, just how the Liverpool attack will look when the 25-year old returns remains to be seen, but if his Instagram account actually provides any insight into what he wants, then it’ll be Balotelli playing beside him. “My man!!! We’re gonna be linking up soon!! @mb459” wrote the Liverpool striker alongside a picture of him and the Italian.

Now, whether or not that comes to fruition — or, if that’s really what he intended — remains to be seen, but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has stressed that they’re looking for solutions to help Balotelli with his game. The 24-year old has yet to contribute a league goal this season, though it’s without question that his best performance came in the Reds 3-0 thrashing to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the season which was the only match the two of them played together.

While it’s far more likely that the Northern Irishman will look for a solution to accommodate both Sterling and Sturridge in the Liverpool front-line, this could represent a life-line for the Italian. Or, you know, he could be gone by the end of the month if our reported interest in Alexandre Lacazette comes to anything. No whether that’s real or imagined is another story in itself…
