CONFIRMED: Liverpool Sign Striker Danny Ings from Burnley
Last week Liverpool got their summer business started early by agreeing to sign out of contract Manchester City midfielder James Milner and they’ve started the week off with a bang by confirming that Burnley striker Danny Ings will be moving to Merseyside at the end of his own contract at Turf Moor.
The Reds have long been linked with a move for the promising 22-year old with the club making their interest known as early as January. With the Clarets still battling for their Premier League survival, they refused to budge on letting their top-striker leave early despite the fact that he made his position that he was leaving regardless quite clear. With personal terms already agreed and a routine medical to come, the only thing that’s left is for the two sides to work out a compensation package for the youngster.
Since Ings is under the age of 24, Football Association ruled dictate that Burnley is due a fee — believed to be somewhere in the region of £6mil — for his services despite being out of contract. Liverpool have tabled an offer, but it has been rejected by the Clarets who are believed to be holding out for the whole shabang. “We have rejected an offer made by Liverpool, but will continue to have dialogue with the club in order to reach a resolution over the fee,” read a statement from the Championship outfit.
Although the England man, who will be with the Under-21 squad for the European Championships this summer, may not quite be the proven quality that Reds fans all over the world are expecting the club to bring in this summer, the 11-league goals he bagged throughout the course of the season is 3-more than Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and the perpetually injured Daniel Sturridge could muster between the four of them. So, yeah, there’s always that to consider…
