Italian Club Interested in Fabio Borini Confirms Agent

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini finally looks set to leave Anfield this summer with a lack of playing time last season a massive concern for the Italian hit-man. With his prospects of securing first team football this year looking no better, his agent Marco De Marchi confirmed earlier this week that they were going to sit down and talk to the Reds hierarchy.

After rejecting a move to both Sunderland, who he spent the previous season on loan with, as well as freshly relegated Queens Park Rangers, who tried in vain to sign him on transfer deadline day, Borini spent much of the season either on the bench or out of the team as the Anfield outfit struggled to find the net en route to a disappointing sixth place finish. Although a number of clubs made loan offers for the 24-year old, potentially freeing up some squad space and some money for a replacement, they were all rejected by Liverpool — much to the chagrin of the chasing pack.

Italian club Inter Milan confirmed that they were one of the teams looking to bring Borini in, but they were rebuffed outright by the Reds who were more interested in selling him off. While there hasn’t been much talk of their interest since then, De Marchi has started talking up the link again, though he admits that the Nerazzurri haven’t come knocking again. “I know that [Inter director] Ausilio likes him,” he told fcinternews.it before playing down talk of a move, “but there has been no contact from Inter.”

Regardless, Borini is almost certainto  leave Liverpool this summer with the Reds having already brought in Burnley striker Danny Ings and with more fire power expected to follow. While the Italians may not be able to meet the Reds valuation of the 24-year old outright, he could still move to the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium if a rumoured cash / player exchange for Inter playmaker Mateo Kovacic materializes — but let’s be realistic here, how often does that ever happen?
