Jese Rodriguez linked with move to Liverpool

After the announcement that Julian Draxler will be making his way to PSG it was inevitable that players who play a similar role at the club will be linked with a move away.

I think I actually said to a friend “how long before Lucas Moura is sitting in The Kop?” – we both laughed, I’m a comedy genius.

However, it’s not Lucas that has our apparent interests, we are breathing down the neck of former Real Madrid winger Jese Rodriguez and that’s making Las Palmas President Miguel Angel Ramirez very uncomfortable.

Ramirez is very confident that Jese wants to sign for the Canarian football club, telling Las Provincias:

Jese Rodriguez is a great footballer. He wants to come to Las Palmas, but he is owned by PSG and earns a salary that is of his level – and that is very high. Liverpool, Milan and Roma want Jese and are ready to pay what he earns. We cannot afford that salary.

What a reasonable thing to say. I’m sure the only reason he doesn’t want his career to go from Madrid to Paris to Las Palmas is because he’s obsessed with his bank account. That being said, Ramirez makes a fair point – they can’t afford his wages.

It actually is unfortunate that clubs like Las Palmas will have to settle for lesser players but that’s the world we live in; big names like Xherdan Shaqiri and Dimitri Payet would never step down from a club with a giant reputation…

Jese moved to PSG in the summer for £21 million but has struggled to make an impact, only making two league starts for the Parisians and it’d be understandable, following Draxler’s announcement, that he’d be ready to quit.

Liverpool isn’t the only club mentioned by Las Palmas’ President; he also says that Milan and Roma want Rodriguez and are, too, ready to pay his inflated wages.

Taking a glace at Serie A, it wouldn’t be silly to suggest Jese would be a success over there – look at the likes of Jose Callejon and Gonzalo Higuain; they’ve excelled after swapping the Spanish life for a slice of lasagna.

I hope that this (admittedly weak) link to Liverpool from Jese is a case of without fire, there is no smoke but it does seem a stretch. I’m not sure the Spaniard will be looking to stand in for Sadio Mane while he’s at AFCON, perhaps finding himelf benched again when he’s back.

It’s great if Jurgen Klopp is already looking at players of his quality – bringing in players who are on the fringes of the biggest clubs in Europe is a very good way of going about business if you’re in our position.
