Iago Aspas on Verge of Merseyside Move

Cough twice
We’ve been waiting for this moment for a few weeks now, but the News Desk can confirm that Iago Aspas and Liverpool first team doctor Zaf Iqbal are in the same place at the same time with the Spanish strikers move to Merseyside edging towards completion.

It’s been somewhat of a protracted transfer for the £7.7mil rated forward after leaks suggested that the deal to bring the Celta Vigo attacker to Anfield was already done; since then, it’s been a whirlwind of nonsense with all kinds of stories – imagined or otherwise – attempting to explain what exactly was holding proceedings up. Regardless of whether it was fake agents, Ian Ayre’s bumbling or the almighty dollar that made this move more complicated than it should have been it hardly matters now; reliable reports have Aspas at Melwood going through the motions of his medical and that’s all that matters.

With the future of Luis Suarez in doubt, Brendan Rodgers has moved swiftly to bolster Liverpool’s attack should the £35mil rated Uruguayan make a run for the Anfield exit – though there’s little to suggest that the 25 year old would be a direct replacement for Suarez as the Reds scouting department is rumored to have been watching the Spaniard for some time. Aspas found the next 12 times in 35 league outings for Celta Vigo last year and his contributions helped keep Os Célticos in the Spanish Primera Division with a dramatic last day escape from relegation. Earlier this week the Spaniard spoke of how Liverpool were “the only club” for him after turning down a “number of clubs” for a move to the English giants and even went so far as to cancel his Caribbean holiday in order to ensure the move was completed in a timely fashion. More on this when he’s either officially unveiled or when he decides Pina Coladas and sunshine is a better option than playing Uno with Jordan Henderson.
