Suarez Sets Record with 20 Goals in 15 Matches

Another match, another goal for our Luis
It’s another milestone for Luis Suarez as his stunning freekick against Hull City in yesterday’s 2-0 win gave the Uruguayan his 20th goal of the season and set a new record in the process.

The Liverpool striker is now the fastest player to reach 20 goals in the Premier League after breaking the record previously held by former Crystal Palace man Kevin Phillips in the 1999/2000 season. While the journeyman striker hit the mark in an impressive 21 games, it’s taken Luis, who also becomes the first Liverpool striker to hit 20 back to back goals in successive season since Robbie Fowler, only 15 — something Brendan Rodgers revealed he did while carrying a knock he picked up on Sunday against Chelsea.

“Today was very much about the team. Luis will, of course, always get the plaudits because he’s a world-class player” said the Reds boss who went on to reveal that the Uruguayan wasn’t quite fit.

“Nine out of 10 players would not have played today. He had a real bad knock on the top of his foot from the Chelsea game. I know, having managed and worked with players, that most players wouldn’t have played with what he had today” conceded Rodgers. “He had strapping on it and he put himself out there for the team yet again. That’s why he gets the goals that he does, because he’s so determined.”

A break from Premier League action this weekend could see Suarez rested when Oldham Athletic visit Anfield in the FA Cup this weekend. To be fair, the man has earned himself a break.
