Lucas and Sakho Expected to Return for Manchester United Trip

Ready for Sunday
Although they may not return immediately to the starting line-up, Liverpool duo Lucas and Mamadou Sakho are expected to, in the very least, make the bench for this weekend’s trip to Old Trafford.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will be buoyed by the news that the defensive minded pair will be available for selection; with his side shipping goals far too easily, a little bit of stability is exactly what the Anfield outfit need. With a mere ten matches left in the season, Liverpool are approaching make or break time with top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester City all set to test their resolve before the campaign closes out in the middle of May.

Both players came through last week’s reserve fixture unscathed as the u21’s downed West Ham United’s famous academy side with an empathetic 2-0 victory and they’re expected to rejoin the senior squad in a full training session today. Lucas, who has been out since clashing knees during the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in January, put in a full 90-minutes against the Hammers and could come into the squad for Joe Allen if Rodgers decides that the Brazilian’s experience outweighs the Welshman’s current run of good form.

Sakho, who made his debut for Liverpool at Old Trafford as the Reds exited the League Cup 1-0 earlier this season, could also come back into the starting eleven as Rodgers looks to solve his problems at the back. The Frenchman has been on the sidelines since late December after pulling his hamstring at Stamford Bridge, but he made it through 70-minutes in last week’s reserve match without issue and will be assessed in the days leading up to the meeting with United.

Steven McMillan

Can’t find up from down or tell black from white, but doesn't care cause it’s all Red to him. When he's not pissing and moaning about all things Liverpool, he’s chatting nonsense with his multiple personalities — or his “entourage” as he likes to call them.

Not ready to start yet, Liverpool should remain unchanged when they take on that long ball garbage and the referee on Sunday.

Not sure if either of them should be thrown back into the starting eleven, but I have a feeling we could see Sakho brought right back. Rodgers doesn’t seem to have much faith in Agger these days…
