Suarez Snatches FTBpro PFA Fan Player of the Season Award

Now everyone yawn in unison: Luis Suarez has snapped up another individual award by garnering the majority of the votes and being named FTBpro PFA Fan Player of the Season.
Although this was an award based completely on votes from fans, club bias obviously hasn’t won out on this occasion with the Liverpool man rightfully claiming the award. With 31-league goals — no penalties either — to his name, Suarez adds this particular plaudit to a growing heap of trophies that already includes the PFA and FWA Player of the Season awards as well as the Premier League Golden Boot award for scoring the most goals in the season.
To say that Suarez was a major player as the Anfield outfit finished as runners-up to eventual champions Manchester City and secured Champions League football for the first time since 2009 would be a major understatement. With a fantastic season behind him, football fans around the world were looking forward to seeing him on the biggest stage the sport has to offer this summer, but we may not catch a glimpse with knee surgery sidelining him for the foreseeable future.
The Uruguayan, who should be strutting his stuff at the World Cup in Brazil next month, is facing a fight to be fit in time for the tournament after damaging his lateral meniscus. The problem is thought to have stemmed from Liverpool’s last match of the season when he took a knock against Newcastle United, but this has yet to be confirmed by the Reds medical staff who did not report the injury prior to releasing him to the national team.
Earlier in the day, respected Uruguayan news outlet Ovacion reported that Suarez will miss out on the opening match of the Group Stages against Costa Rica on June 14th, and boss Oscar Tabarez explained that naming him to the side that faces England five days later would be “difficult”.
