Barcelona Eyeing Daniel Agger? Again?

Having been linked with a move to Barcelona for years now, it’s starting to look like Daniel Agger is heading for the Catalan giants after flying home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour.
Although the club said it was due to an injury — which, let’s be fair, wouldn’t be all that surprising, would it? — it comes hot on the heels of increased speculation regarding the Danish defender’s future. With the signature of Southampton defender Dejan Lovren signed, sealed and delivered, Agger is looking even more surplus to requirements at Anfield and a move to Barcelona could very well work out fantastically for both parties.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers moved to quash rumours that the 29-year old would be sold this summer following their 2-1 defeat to his former side Brondby in a pre-season friendly. That, of course, was before Lovren was announced, and though we don’t expect the boss to “top up” his statements after every signing, a reported bid of £12mil from the La Liga club that have pined after his signature for so long now may finally be enough to see him make the move.
Agger, who just wants to play football, struggled to hold down a starting spot on Merseyside last season with a combination of injuries and the arrival of Mamadou Sakho from Paris Saint Germain relegating the vice-captain to a bit part as the Reds romped to a second place finish in the Premier League. It’s still early days, but this is a rumour that we’ll be watching closely…
