Victor Valdes Set for Liverpool Medical During International Break

Ready for a medical

Rumours of Liverpool’s move for free-agent Victor Valdes looks to be coming to a head with news coming in that the former Barcelona shot-stopper will undergo an extensive medical with the Merseysiders during the international break.

Although there’s nothing stopping other clubs from making the 32-year old an offer, the Reds remain confident of signing the three-time Champions League winner — if he can prove his fitness. Valdes is in the last stages of rehabilitation following an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered last March, but has been widely tipped to pass his medical ahead of signing a two-year contract with the Anfield outfit.

Liverpool have been in talks with the Spanish shot-stopper for some time as Reds boss Brendan Rodgers looks to not only provide incumbent ‘keeper Simon Mignolet with real competition from the bench, but to also have a player in reserve that can take over the number one spot if need be.

The Belgian has been under extreme scrutiny this season with Liverpool defense continuing to be a major concern. Despite shoring up the backline with a number of big money moves over the summer, there’s been little to no apparent improvement as the Reds continue to leak goals. Mignolet has been singled out as one of the main culprits with a number of pundits betting that Valdes will step right in to the starting eleven.
