Glen Johnson Resigned to Liverpool Departure
With fullback Alberto Moreno carrying a slight knock, veteran defender Glen Johnson has found himself back in the Liverpool starting eleven as of late, but with only four matches left in the season, the 30-year old has admitted that these could very well be the last games he plays in the famous red shirt.
With his contract set to expire this summer, the former Portsmouth man has been free to discuss terms with other clubs since January. Despite both parties stating that they want to work things out, an amicable agreement over a new deal has yet to be reached. Rumour has it that the Reds have offered Johnson a short-term deal with a massive pay cut in accordance with their long-term investment in youth, but the Liverpool fullback has insisted time and again that his decision has had nothing to do with money.
The Anfield outfit look certain to miss out on Champions League football this season with yesterday’s defeat against Hull City certainly the lowest ebb in a poor run of form. Speaking to the press after the match, Johnson was quite blunt when asked about the prospect of staying on Merseyside after this season. “I would have thought so – I haven’t got a contract. We’ll have to wait and see (if that is going to change),” he told SkySports News. “I don’t think so but we have to wait and see.”
The 30-year old has been heavily linked with a move to Italian side AS Roma with the Giallorossi reportedly interested in the Englishman’s services, but boyhood club West Ham United have emerged as potential suitors for his signature in recent weeks with their number one target in Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson looking likely to snub a move to Ewood Park.
