There was a little shindig last night at the Kop End of Anfield. You’d think it would be for the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as new Liverpool boss, but instead we were lifting a cup of good cheer for the launch of the new Liverpool home kit from Warrior Sports. Although the News Desk couldn’t get past the velvet rope, the beefy bouncers were nice enough to let us press our noses against the glass and watch all the happy people shell out for some shiny new swag; and help Craig Bellamy support a good cause.
In a unique deal that will see the Bellamy’s sponsorship fee go directly to the Craig Bellamy Foundation in Sierra Leone, Warrior will work closely with the striker to raise global awareness of the Foundation and build on his work to date. The Liverpool front man will also work alongside Warrior to develop its debut football boot collection.
Head of Warrior Football Richard Wright commented: “At Warrior, we align ourselves with athletes who are highly driven, motivated and possess a winning mentality – Craig is one of these athletes. His work in Sierra Leone is remarkable and we are delighted to help these young footballers of tomorrow.”
Anyone who’s played against or with Craig will tell you he’s all of the above. The Welsh striker’s mouth is also about as a clean as a fisting contest, but donating what’s sure to be a hefty chunk of change to aide those in need is admirable to say the least. Wonder how many dirty words he knows in Krio?
