Brendan Rodgers Looking to Add Depth Across the Board

Playing the market

Liverpool have been extremely busy in the transfer market this summer, and though they’ve splashed a serious amount of cash already, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he’s not about to slow down the signing spree as he looks to add even more depth to his squad before the window closes.

The Anfield outfit have acquired seven new players since the market opened with Southampton trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren being joined by Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can, Lille striker Divock Origi, Benfica winger Lazar Markovic and Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo who is on a two year loan from the La Liga side. Despite the enviable task of bedding in so many new players, the Northern Irishman seems more than up for the task and is ready to take on even more new recruits.

“We would still like to do some business,” Rodgers told the official website following Sunday’s 4-0 drubbing of German side Borussia Dortmund at Anfield. “But I’m certainly happy with where we’re at with the squad at the moment. We’ve still got players to come back from injury.” New signings Lallana and Markovic are joined by stalwart defender Daniel Agger on the treatment table and they’re all expected to miss the start of the season as they recover.

Following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, the Reds have been linked with a move for a top class striker with Chelsea reject Samuel Eto’o being the latest name to be thrown around. A fullback has also been high on Rodgers wishlist with a summer long saga for the services of Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno coming to a head. Regardless of who he ends up bringing in, at this point in time, the Reds are keeping their head in the game and their eyes on who is available. “Across the board we still want to add a little bit more depth to what we have” he continued. “We hope to do some more business.”
