Daniel Sturridge’s Fitness On Track for January Return

Leading into yesterday’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Arsenal, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers provided an update on striker Daniel Sturridge’s road to recovery, confirming that the 25-year old is on track to return to the squad in the New Year.
A string of injuries have kept the England international out of action since the end of August, if all goes well, he’ll be back and ready to hook up with the squad — which comes as music to the ears of Kopites around the globe. “That will probably be just after the Christmas period. The first phase of his rehab was out in LA where we did some specific work with him there” said the Northern Irishman when asked when he expected Sturridge to return. “He’s gone to Boston to pick up the next stage, then he’ll move on again to a specialist facility out there and hopefully in the early part of the New Year he’ll be back and be somewhere close to being fit and playing.”
Although the Reds slow start to the Premier League season looks to be gathering steam with a number of promising performances, one thing that’s certain is they’ve missed the edge that having a natural goalscorer in the side gives you. The Anfield outfit created a host of chances, but failed to bury a single one, during the 3-0 loss at Old Trafford last weekend and yesterday’s draw with the Gunners could have gone far different if they had even a touch more quality in front of the net.
“At some stage in January, we’ll look to get Dan back. That will be really exciting for this team” conceded Rodgers, who has come under increasing pressure to produce results in recent weeks. “We’ll put him into the mix again and go back to that flow of our game and results, hopefully.”
